Mastiha: A Rare Origin with Clinical Relevance
Mastiha, or Pistacia lentiscus var. Chia, is a rare, aromatic resin sourced exclusively from the island of Chios, Greece. Formed as tear-like droplets along the tree’s bark, it is harvested using time-honored techniques that have been preserved for generations. While mastiha trees grow throughout the Mediterranean, only those in southern Chios produce resin with this level of potency due to a unique combination of microclimate, soil, and cultivation practices. Recognized by UNESCO for its cultural significance, mastiha is valued today for its complex composition and its role in both medicinal and clinical applications.
