What is in a name? It would be easy to simply assume that “hyper” means more and “pigment” means color, therefore hyperpigmentation is just more color. However, it is just not that simple.

Hyperpigmentation is a common skin condition that makes some areas of the skin darker than others. There are three main types of hyperpigmentation:

  • Melasma – Caused by hormones, intensified with sun exposure.
  • Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH) – Caused by trauma (acne wounds, rashes, burns, inflammation, intrinsic conditions)
  • Freckles and Sun Damage – Caused by genetics and sun exposure.

In each case, there is a dysfunction in a well-intended biological mechanism. Melanin, the pigment that occurs within our skin and influences our skin tones. Every human produces melanin, but the amount, types, size, and distribution are influenced by genetic predisposition. With hyperpigmentation, melanin production and distribution are both increased, set into production by the threat of cellular damage – actual (physical excoriation) or perceived (hormonal, heat, exposure) – to protect keratinocytes. Because all humans have melanin, we are all vulnerable to hyperpigmentation. For positive function in healthy skin, melanin must be managed daily.

With a comprehensive understanding of how the skin should function, Lira Clinical has developed a new product to effectively address the root causes and consequences of hyperpigmentation. The name says it all:

PRO Brite-Plus Serum delivers antioxidant protection, anti-inflammatory relief, and powerfully brightening properties promising bright and beautiful skin for all skin types, tones, and conditions.

Each ingredient in this brightening serum is functional and intentional, but three inspired the “Plus” in the product’s name.

  • Tranexamic Acid: TXA is an efficient brightening component that works by interfering with keratinocyte/melanocyte communication. It has been proven to be incredibly effective in addressing melasma.
  • Ferulic Acid: An antioxidant that boosts the effectiveness of other antioxidants, this powerfully brightening component also maximizes anti-aging efforts with protection from cellular damage.
  • MASQ-tech™: The specific form of mastiha used in this power serum accommodates effective communication with the skin while delivering brightening triterpenes into the epidermis. This calms melanocyte production as well as protects keratinocytes from free radical assault.

Examining the name of Lira Clinical’s latest product release, we know “PRO” is professionally designed, “Brite” encourages a healthy melanin response, and “Plus” represents the signature Lira Clinical inclusions that make each formulation work so well with the skin. The PRO Brite-Plus Serum is an incredibly brightening and calming serum that will tackle all forms of hyperpigmentation while preventing the opportunity for uneven melanin distribution.
